Artistic Statement

Sofia Malemina is a London based multimedia artist specialising in video and audio engineering, virtual reality and interactive installation.
Artist’s creative direction is a curious and sensitive play of mediums versus attitudes. Representing the new digital generation of performers, she constantly syndicates disciplines in a search of innovative forms of non-commercial art. In the last years of practice her attention was on collective psychologies, voyeurism, existentialism, conceptual philosophies of nonexistence.
Intrigued by the idea of Simulacra and Simulation (1981) by Jean Baudrillard, Sofia views the lens as an intricate tool to spy, view, point, replicate, direct, discover... A journey of elimination begins with a series of works capturing Nothingness: could the body exist in the void? Could emptiness be detained? Could silence be audible? Could an interactive sculpture represent a formula of quietness?
The artist advances from objective to subjective art, from individualistic ideas towards concepts of symbolism, and leaves the questions open for the audience and herself.
